Puerto Vallarta Marine Wildlife
While Whale Watch Vallarta focuses on the wonderful Humpback whales that return to the Bay of Banderas each winter and the resident pod of Bottlenose Dolphins, most of our tours could be better described as Marine Life Tours considering the amazing variety of marine life we commonly encounter. In the Bay of Banderas not only can you encounter different whale and dolphins species, but over 600 species of fish, marine turtles, manta rays and a multitude of Marine Birds!
What we encounter on our tours varies from day to day and hour to hour, after all, we are dealing with nature. But some of the wildlife is resident and easily encountered on all of the tours. There is a pod of Bottlenose Dolphins that have made Banderas Bay their home, we typically encounter them on every tour. Along the tour we encounter many species of Marine Birds like; Brown Pelicans, Cormorants, Frigates, and both Brown and Blue Footed Boobies.
On many tours during the Humpback whale watching season we also see other Cetacean species, the Spotted Dolphin. On very special occasions we do also encounter Orca and False Killer Whales.
Many tours encounter Sea Turtles and Manta Rays. There are many species of marine turtle in the area, from Ridleys to the enormous Leatherback. We frequently see large Manta Rays filtering their food from the oceans surface.
Do be aware that we do not see all of these animals on every tour, seasonal differences in water temperature and other factors weigh in to what we encounter. We offer you these images simply to share some of the beauty of Puerto Vallarta’s marine life in the Bay of Banderas. If you have encountering a specific species in mind we recommend you contact Whale Watch Vallarta.
