Welcome to the 2014/5 Puerto Vallarta Whale Watching Season! This is the Whale Watch Vallarta Trip Review Roundup for our December 2014 tours, sightings and reports. What a great start to the season it has been as well. Not only have we encountered numerous Humpback Whales on every tour we have also been visited by the resident population of Bottlenose Dolphins on almost every tour as well.
The Puerto Vallarta Whale Watching Season begins each year on December 8 – but no one tells the whales that! It is usually late November when the first Humpback Whales are spotted off of Puerto Vallarta in the Bay of Banderas. This year was no different with the first Humpback Whales encountered on November 14th as a couple of large Humpbacks were seen spending time within the bay.
The Humpback Whales that migrate back to the Bay of Banderas in Puerto Vallarta each year are members of the North Eastern Pacific Humpback population that spends summers along the North American coast between California and Alaska feeding. These whales spend the winter season here in Vallarta looking to mate and pregnant females return to give birth and nurse their single calf to strength for the arduous journey north. Typically we do not see any baby Humpbacks until early January.
This whale watching season we have had some great surprises like the first baby Humpback spotted in mid December! One thing about going to see wildlife in their own environment, you never really know what you will encounter, and with an open mind it is often a wonderful surprise. Many of our whale watching trips reported seeing this early season baby Humpback and its Mother.
During December of this season not only did we see Humpback Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins, we also saw giant Manta Rays, Sea Turtles and numerous species of Marine Birds. A wonderful mix to the delight of our guests.
Whale Watch Vallarta offers our Biologist and Naturalist led Whale Watching Tours beginning December 8 through to the end of the season at March 23 every day of the week, with 3 departures daily. As there is also a resident pod of Bottlenose Dolphins here in Puerto Vallarta we also offer Marine Wildlife Tours starting in mid November until December 8th and from March 23rd to 31st when we have a 100% success rate of encountering the Bottlenose Dolphins and typically we also see Humpback Whales as well!
So if you will be visiting Puerto Vallarta we hope you will join Whale Watch Vallarta, the only dedicated Whale Watching Company in Nuevo Vallarta for some wonderful whale watching tours during the 2015 Vallarta whale watching season!Share
