Puerto Vallarta Whale watching tours for the month of December 2015 were wonderful in review. While the month started slowly with the late arrival of the bulk of the migrating Humpback Whales into the bay, later in the month of December we started to see the bulk of the population arrive. This is the Puerto Vallarta Whale watching tour review for the month of December 2015.
Humpback Whales are the main species of cetacean we encounter on our tours here in Puerto Vallarta. This season was previewed to be affected by the strongest El Nino in many years. When this happens the oceans are much warmer than usual. This can lead to a difference in the migration of the Humpback Whales to Puerto Vallarta.
As expected, there were Humpback Whales in the bay by the end of November, but they did make for a greater effort required to find the Whales. We did break our 100% success in sightings record during the first week of the Puerto Vallarta Whale watching season as well. But, with our sightings guarantee we were able to offer those few guests complimentary tours to ensure everyone got to experience the thrill of encountering the Whales.
As December reached its mid point the population of Humpbacks reached a more reasonable number and our tours once again were filled with Humpback Whales and Bottlenose Dolphins. The last few weeks of the month of December we had amazing tours, lots of activity was observed, several mating competitions and even some Orcas were spotted in the bay! Orcas are a rare sight here in Puerto Vallarta.
So in review, December 2015 was a slow start to the Puerto Vallarta Whale watching tour season. But, as we reached mid December the population took back its familiar size and we started to recognize more Whales back in the bay.
For January, we are predicting a surge in the population. This is expected as the males who are courting females will be arriving in larger numbers and the competition is expected to become stronger. We look forward to welcoming you to Puerto Vallarta and having you join us for some wonderful Whale Watching tours!Share
